TV9 Promotes Organic Handloom at Chenetha Santha

Handlooms are an age old tradition of making cloth by spinning and weaving. It has been the backbone of a vast number of the rural populace for their livelihood. Telangana has a very long standing tradition of weaving and handloom production. Over the years the industry has suffered by way of decreasing numbers in the weaving class, fall in quality of work, low wages, and a host of other reasons. When one gets to the inner rural pockets where the real ethnic craftsmen weave their wonderful handloom fabrics, one gets to see the highly contrasting stark reality.

TV9 believes in the emancipation of the weaver whose contribution to Indian heritage is ever to be valued and remembered. Through the telecast of stories and promos TV9 has been promoting the importance of handlooms.

TV9 has been bringing forth issues of weavers by telecasting sound bytes. Despite frugal spending and hard toil the weaver has never been able to eke out an existence without the mercy of the local money lender’s whims. The weaver never gets to receive government assistance either because of the middle levels between ministry and the vast multitude of spread-out weavers, mostly never let the major chunk of the money get past them.

Focussing on the need for a weavers market that acknowledges and appreciates their worth, activist Saraswati Kavula has been organising handloom fair once in every two months in Hyderabad. Bridging the gap is ‘Chenetha Santha’ where a customer buys handloom directly from the weaver and feels happy to pay for the real worth of cloth.

TV9 Promotes Rockathon 2018

The landscape of Hyderabad has beautiful formations of rocks nearly 250 crore years old. Hyderabad is one of the oldest capital cities of the world which can boast of such unique rock formations.

TV9 feels it is important that Architects, town planners and master plan designers to understand the region and promote inclusive architecture where rocks can be protected. Rocks influence the water table, contribute to the quality of soil, affect the rainfall and provide the ideal habitat for many plants and animals – all of which plays a part in maintaining the balance in the ecosystem.

TV9 has been promoting the idea for citizens to integrate rocks into their living spaces as far as possible. TV9 has been conveying to people that there are places where they can just enjoy nature. It is so thrilling to be on top of a building, on the rock it is even more thrilling because it took some effort to go up.

TV9 has been collaborating with ‘Society to Save Rocks’ that aims to protect the Deccan’s rich rockscapes. ‘Hyderabad Rockathon-2018’ at Khajaguda near Gachibowli provided the perfect escapade for rock-lovers, adventure buffs and nature enthusiasts who thronged the seventh edition of Hyderabad Rockathon recently. School children, professionals and families told TV9 that they are proud of the rockscape particular to Hyderabad. They enjoyed the fun, creative and adventure activities that included rock walks, rock shot put, rock balancing. They participated in adventure activities that included trail run, rappelling, bouldering, zip line and slack lining.

In spite of a lot of media awareness a lot of rock cutting is still going on. The city is spreading out and space for construction and development is needed but the realisation that rocks can be integrated into this development is still to come.

TV9 has been promoting Hyderabad Children’s Theatre Festival, an annual event for the last eight years. This platform has been giving children access to quality wholesome entertainment and a chance to watch National and regional theatre groups perform.

TV9 has been telecasting stories of young children, and orphaned children as viewers of HCTF on their experiences.  For a young person it definitely is an extraordinary and unique experience. Vaishali Bisht is behind the idea of the Hyderabad Children’s Theatre Festival. She has been working extensively with children in the city and has written, directed and produced childrens plays.

Theatre can also boost literacy and vocabulary, encourage communication, imagination and curiosity, and lengthen the attention span of children.

It is time children’s theatre is valued and taken seriously and TV9 has been doing just that. It is only when culture and art is accessible to children, in terms of reflecting their experiences and thoughts, that we can hope to nurture their talents in this arena.

Grace Cancer Run

Head and neck (mouth, larynx, throat or nose) cancers account for a large portion of the total number of cancer cases reported in India, and nearly half of the patients with such type of cancers die within a year of diagnosis. Over 1.7 lakh cancer cases are reported every year of which 76% are males; many patients come for treatment only after cancer has reached advanced stage.

Nearly 70% of head and neck cancers are related to consumption of  tobacco, areca nut and alcohol. Unfortunately, these causative agents are freely available either due to weak policy or implementation, or absence of it.
Recently TV9 supported Race For Grace, a cancer awareness run and urged people to stay away from tobacco. The run is a chance to challenge oneself, set new limits and reduce cancer risk by being physically active. Early detection is the key to conquering cancer and anyone can make meaningful and significant changes in lifestyle to  prevent occurrence of cancer.
TV9 telecast promos on social media platforms, aired scrolls and covered the event LIVE to spread awareness regarding the importance of early detection as it goes a long way in preventing cancer complications.

HelpAge India

TV9 has been associated with the National level NGO HelpAge India’s Hyderabad chapter for many years. For an estimated 104 million elderly in India, more than fifty percent suffer abuse and neglect from kith and kin. Property issues were found to be the prime reason.

As a channel that stands for the motto ‘Better Society’ TV9 has been sensitising viewers to take care of their parents and the elderly. TV9 feels the need to understand senior citizens issues and has been scrolling Toll-free Elder Helpline numbers.  The Helpline links elders to various institutions such as old age homes, hospitals, police, government and non-governmental organizations.
The 2018 ‘Elder Abuse Study’ report, released by HelpAge India found that sons were the foremost perpetrators of elder abuse. The main reason for abuse was related to the abuser wanting to live independently, property, lack of resources to meet the needs of elders and dislike for the senior’s way of living. Though there is greater understanding among seniors about abuse, reporting remains dismally low while many did not know how to deal with the problem, suggesting lack of awareness.
TV9 has been creating awareness among the elders about their rights under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior citizens Act, 2007 by focussing on the issue in half an hour discussion based programs. TV9 has been airing promos, scrolls and has done coverage of many initiatives of HelpAge India.

Ravi Prakash Foundation Activities: Health

A small village amidst greenery in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh is known for the world famous dance art from Kuchipudi. The art from has conquered hearts of people around the world but the living conditions of people still remains backward. This is due to the successive governments negligence.  The poor and low income groups who live in

Moved by this fact, Siliconandhra founder Anand Kuchibhotla made up his mind to construct a 50 crore Sanjivani hospital to the people of his home town. The state government promised to contribute funds but there has been an immense and a long delay. TV9 CEO Ravi Prakash pitched in immediately to support the cause. Ravi Prakash Foundation Activities: Education

Thousands of primary schools across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana lack basic facilities and quality education. Parents show a growing preference for private pre-schools and schools over Anganwadi centres and government schools.

Parents  are dissatisfied with sub-standard facilities and the lack of minimal infrastructure in government schools, such as students’ desks, tables, stools, carpets, teacher’s chairs, black boards, drinking water, limited space, lack of playgrounds and teaching materials.
Ravi Prakash Foundation donated funds for the construction of  a government school building at Ongole in Andhra Pradesh. TV9 CEO Ravi Prakash inaugurated the constructed school in Prakasam district’s Kothapatnam on 5th July 2017. It resembled a residential school building with modern facilities.
